So, I've noticed YouTubers starting to use iPhone microphones. But actually, how good is the sound quality compared to lav mics? I tested the following: - iPhone 15 Pro Max Microphone - Rode Wireless Go II - DJI Mic - Sennheiser MKH416 (an XLR microphone) What do you think?
My personal thoughts: 1. A dedicated lavalier microphone still ends up being an appreciable jump in quality higher than the iPhone 15 Pro Max microphone, as you can hear in the video. 2. However, you could totally get away with an iPhone microphone, especially if you were to use some sort of tool to correct the audio quality. 3. I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but typically if you have some money for it, getting the equipment for better audio is going to be more valuable for a video than getting e.g. camera equipment or lenses. People can tolerate lower quality videos, but low quality audio is a much harsher experience for audiences to tolerate.
